CHICAGO, Ill. (March 16, 2026) - Chicago State University Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Chris Frederick as the new Assistant Track & Field Coach. Fredrick joins the program and will coach the sprints, relays & will also serve as the programs recruiting coordinator.
Christopher Frederick joins the program with a strong background in sprint and hurdle development at the Division I level. He most recently served as an assistant track and field coach at Saint Francis University, where he helped lead a successful group of sprinters and hurdlers in the Northeast Conference.
During his time at Saint Francis, Frederick coached multiple NEC finalists and champions while contributing to several school-record performances. His athletes captured conference titles in the men's 100 meters and 200 meters and earned an IC4A championship in the 110-meter hurdles. Under his guidance, student-athletes set Saint Francis school records in the men's 100 meters, men's 200 meters, women's indoor 200 meters, women's 600 meters, and women's 300 meters. His athletes also qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Round in the 110-meter hurdles.
Frederick also helped produce numerous NEC medalists and finalists across sprint and relay events, including runner-up finishes in the women's 500 meters and the women's 4x400 relay at the conference championships. His athletes consistently ranked among the top all-time performers in Saint Francis program history in the 60 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters.
Before Saint Francis, Frederick served as a graduate assistant track and field coach at Seton Hill University while completing his master's degree in Innovative Instruction. At Seton Hill, he assisted with practice planning, recruiting, and athlete development while helping guide several PSAC championship finalists in sprint and hurdle events.
A former Division I student-athlete at Saint Francis University, Frederick earned his bachelor's degree in social work and was actively involved in student-athlete leadership initiatives, including serving as a representative on the Northeast Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and mentoring fellow student-athletes.
His background in social work and youth development, combined with his experience as a collegiate athlete and coach, has shaped a coaching philosophy centered on mentorship, academic support, and holistic student-athlete development.
Frederick graduated with a Master of Innovative Insrtruction from Seton Hill University and also has a Bachelor of Social Work from Saint Francis University.
