CHICAGO, Ill. - The NEC has announced their weekly men's basketball award winners for the week of February 2, 2026. Chicago State's
CJ Ray has been named INFLUXER/NEC Co-Player of the Week and NEC Prime Performer after his performances over the past weekend.
CJ Ray delivered one of the most dominant individual performances in the NEC this week, leading Chicago State to a 78–74 victory over Mercyhurst on January 31.
Ray poured in a career-high 37 points, shooting an efficient 13-for-20 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line. He added a double-double with 10 rebounds, while also contributing two steals and one assist in 37 minutes of action.
Ray's impact was felt throughout the game, as he scored at all three levels and consistently delivered in key moments. He recorded multiple second-chance baskets off offensive rebounds, knocked down timely perimeter shots, and helped Chicago State maintain control during crucial stretches in the second half. His scoring output accounted for nearly half of the Cougars' total offense and was instrumental in securing the team's NEC victory.
With his all-around effort, efficiency, and leadership on the floor,
CJ Ray was the driving force behind Chicago State's win.
The men's basketball team will return to action on Thursday, February 5 traveling to New Britain, Connecticut for a NEC Conference matchup against Central Connecticut State University. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
