Davidson, N.C. - The Chicago State women's triathlon team officially opened its 2025 season at the
Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon in Davidson, N.C., racing against a deep field of NCAA programs and gaining valuable early-season experience.
Sophomore
Melaika Russell led the way for the Cougars clocking a
15:01 swim,
37:13 bike, and
28:50 run on her way to a strong finish. Her consistency across all three disciplines set a positive tone for Chicago State's Day.
Junior
Jasmine Cruz showed determination throughout the course in her first collegiate triathlon, completing the race with a
21:07 swim,
47:46 bike, and
35:14 run, using her endurance on the run leg to close strong.
Rounding out the Cougar trio was sophomore
Jalyn Long making
 her
 first collegiate triathlon debut, who showcased tremendous perseverance by battling through a challenging opening swim of
32:52, followed by a
59:50 bike and
41:19 run. Her finish demonstrated the team's never-quit mentality and highlighted the depth of effort across the roster.
With Russell, Cruz, and Long setting the foundation, CSU leaves Davidson with confidence and motivation heading into the remainder of the fall schedule.
