Cougars Close Action At First Ever NEC Indoor Track Championships

Both Squads Close Action in Fourth Place

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Chicago State track and field teams closed out action at the 2025 NEC Indoor Track Championships with both teams finishing in fourth place in the standings. The women earned 89 points and the men 78.

The Cougars also had several team members earn awards. Raymond Oriakhi was named mens' MVP and took home Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints)while Rachel Whyte took home Women's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer.

Overall, the Cougars reached the podium 18 times on the final day of competition. Conference champions include: Skylar McGhee in the long jump, and Raymond Oriakhi in the 60m hurdles and Rachel Whyte claimed conference titles in the 400m and 200m.

The Chicago State sprinters had a wonderful meet. Highlighted by Whyte's championships in the 400m and 200m and Oriakhi's 60m  hurdle titles, the Cougars saw Ishan Cooper take second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.25 while Sanaa Parker (7.67) and Whyte (7.69) took second and third place, respectively in the 60m.

On the men's side Trevon Price placed second in the 500m with a time of 104.26 while Oriakhi placed third in the 400m with a time of 48.44.

The men's 4x400m placed second with a time of 3:17.96 while the women were third wiht a time of 3:55.78. The women were just edged out for second place by the Stonehill team who placed second with a time of 3:55.65

In the field events Ernest Davenport placed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.99m while Nikai McNee was second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.44m, just shy of the 14.49 champion Jack Mason of Wagner jumped. Karly Klaer place second in the women's shot with a throw of 13.59m

The Cougars will try to shore up times for the 2025 NCAA Championships at the Silverstein Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan on Feb. 21.
