Chicago State Men’s Basketball Cruise Past Calumet College 103-56

Cougars Record 10th Win of the Season

Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team jumped out to a big halftime lead with a 26-0 run and pushed their home record to 7-0 with a 103-56 victory over Calumet College Friday night at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The Cougars host Hartford Sunday and sets up this Cougars team to match the eight-game home win streak established across two seasons, when the 2008-09 Cougars won five in a row to finish the season and the 2009-10 won its first three for an eight-game home-win streak. The win was also the 10th of the season for Chicago State who recorded double-digit wins for the first time since 2013-14 (13-19).

Wesley Cardet was one of five Cougars in double figures and he led all scorers with 24 points. He converted his first two free throws of the game and in the process set the Cougars single-season record for free throws made with 147. Elijah Weaver added 16 points, followed by Jahsean Corbett with 15, Bryce Johnson with 14 and Brent Davis with 10 to round out the CSU double-digit scorers. Kedrick Green added eight, Tristan Arneaud with five and Robert Blount with three to round out the scoring for Chicago State.

The men's basketball team will wrap up the home portion of their 2022-23 schedule, hosting the University of Hartford on Sunday, February 19 at 2 p.m. at the Jones Convocation Center. The two teams will play the second of a home-and-home series with the Cougars earning a 62-49 win in West Hartford, Connecticut on February 4 in the two team's only previous meeting. The matchup will be the season finale for the Hawks who enter the game with a 5-22 record.

1st Half - Chicago State 51, Calumet College 18
The Cougar led from the outset, scoring the game's first points and extending to an 11–0 run to start the game with Wesley Cardet scoring six of those points, two from the free throw line where he set a new CSU single-season record with his 147th made free throw
Calumet College scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to seven, 11-4, at the 16:29 mark
Following a Jahsean Corbett bucket, the Crimson Wave answered with a three to cut the lead to six, 13-7
CSU then converted back-to-back threes by Kedrick Green and Wesley Cardet to push the lead back to 12, 19-7
Following a Bryce Johnson layup, CC went on a 9-0 run, converting three three's to cut the lead to five, 21-16, at the 10:41 mark
The Crimson Wave then went on an extended scoring drought, failing to score for the next nine minutes and the Cougars took advantage with a 26-0 run to go up 31, 47-16, with 2:03 remaining in the half
CC stopped the run with a jumper and CSU closed the half scoring the last four points to lead 51-18 at the half

2nd Half - Chicago State 52, Calumet College 38
The Cougars opened the second half with a 15-4 run to extend the lead to 44 points, 66-22, with 15:05 remaining in the game
The lead remained around 40+ points and extended to the largest of the game, 53 points, 103-50, at the 2:06 mark
