Chicago State Men’s Basketball Get Past Saint Xavier 91-67

Elijah Weaver Leads Chicago State with 25 Points

Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team stayed undefeated at home with a 91-67 victory over Saint Xavier this afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The Cougars are 6-0 at home this season, surpassing the 2013-14 CSU team which won five in a row and, with two remaining home games, could match the eight-game home win streak established across two seasons, when the 2008-09 Cougars won five in a row to finish the season and the 2009-10 won its first three for an eight-game home-win streak. 

Elijah Weaver led all scorers with 25, while Jahsean Corbett added 16 and Wesley Cardet tallied 14 for the Cougars.

First Half - Chicago State 55, Saint Xavier 30

  • Chicago State came out hot with an 11-0 run as Wesley Cardet hit two treys and Bryce Johnson hit one
  • Saint Xavier finally cut the run with two deuces to reach a 4-11 score
  • Chicago State then executed another run, this one at 10-0, featuring buckets from Elijah Weaver, Jahsean Corbett and Wesley
  • Chicago State then managed to outscore Saint Xavier 34-26 to finish the half as they shot a 54.5% from the field as a team to gain a 25-point lead at the half with a 55-30 score

Second Half - Chicago State 91, Saint Xavier 67

  • Saint Xavier opened up the scoring this time with a deuce, and went on a 9-5 run to reach a 41-60 lead
  • However, Chicago State came back with a 7-3 run with two treys from Weaver and a free throw from Corbett to maintain in the lead at 67-44
  • Saint Xavier managed a 7-1 run to finish the half but Chicago State won comfortably, 91-67
The Cougars will be back in action, at home, Friday, February 17 welcoming Calumet College of St. Joseph to the JCC for a 7 p.m. tip then will close out the home schedule against Hartford on Sunday, February 19 at 2 p.m.
