Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team earned their first road win of the 2022-23 season, snapping a 21-game road losing streak, with a 74-70 victory over Coastal Carolina Monday night at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina. Chicago State let by nine at the break (42-33) on the strength of 21 Wesley Cardet first-half points but the Chanticleers erased that deficit and led by five with 6:16 remaining in the game.
Elijah Weaver took over down the stretch with nine points in the final 4:02, including going 6-for-6 from the free throw line to seal the win.
Four players scored in double figures for the Cougars led by Wesley Cardet with 21 points.
Elijah Weaver had 17 and
Brent Davis and
Jahsean Corbett each had 10.
The Cougars will be back on the court Wednesday, January 25 to take on the Stanford Cardinal at 9 p.m. at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal are 7-12 this season and 2-7 in the Pac-12 with a 5-4 record at home. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

Following a Coastal bucket, Cardet made a free throw and converted a three following a
Bryce Johnson steal and CSU led 10-4 at the 15:49 mark
Elijah Weaver joined the three-point party with a trey and the Cougars first four field goals came from beyond the arc, and would hit 6-of-14 in the first half
Coastal Carolina then went on a 7-2 run to cut the CSU lead to one, 15-14, with 13:26 remaining in the half
The Cougars answered with a 7-0 run on scores by Cardet and Teshaundre Cole and the lead was once again eight, 22-14, at the 9:42 mark
Coastal Carolina would get to within five on two occasions and CSU would lead by as many as 12, 42-30, before Coastal hit a three and the Cougars led 33-42 at the half
Wesley Cardet scored 21 first-half points for the Cougars on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc
2nd Half - Coastal Carolina 37, Chicago State 32
Coastal opened the second half scoring the first four points to cut the lead to 42-37 at the 18:52 mark
Brent Davis hit a three to push the lead back to eight, 45-37
Coastal countered with an 8-3 run and it was 48-45 with 16:09 remaining in regulation
Kedrick Green knocked down a three and, following a Coastal three,
Bryce Johnson notched one to push the lead to six
At the point, Coastal hit three on back-to-back possessions to tie the game at 54-54 at the 14:13 mark and it was the first tie since the game's opening moments
Jahsean Corbett made a layup to put Chicago State back up by two but Coastal countered with a three and the Chanticleers had their first lead of the game, 57-56 at the 11:23 mark
Both teams failed to score for the next two minutes before Coastal extended their lead to three with a layup with 9:28 remaining
Jahsean Corbett scored to cut the lead to one, 59-58
Coastal then went on a 5-1 run and had their largest lead of the game, five points, at the 6:16 mark, 64-59
The Cougars then went on a 6-0 run on baskets by Teshaundre Cole and

About Chicago State
Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. CSU held memberships in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NCAA Division II before transitioning to NCAA Division I in 1994. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
