The Chicago State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Spartan Cross Country Invitational hosted by Michigan State University Friday, Sept. 17. The men placed 19
th out of 22 teams in an 8K race while the women competed as individuals in a 6K competition and did not compete in the team standings.
Jonnathan Fernandez paced the men's team with a time of 27:33.1, finishing in the 110
th position. He was followed by

Grand Valley State won the men's competition with 35 points, followed by Michigan State (51 points) who had the individual race winner, Morgan Beadlescomb who finished with a time of 24:15.8. Youngstown State (103) took third, followed by Toledo (161), Chicago (165), Saginaw Valley (195), Calvin (200), Illinois-Springfield (229), Oakland (292), Purdue Fort Wayne (300), Central Michigan (315), Indianapolis (338), Northwood (361), Ferris State (379), Hope (389), Bowling Green (450), St. Norbert (484), Lake Superior State (537), Chicago State (583), Olivet (663), Albion (671) and Oakland CC (695).
On the women's side,
Brenda Jepkoech was the top Cougars finisher, traversing the 6K race in 26:27.7, placing 169
th. Angelica Moreno placed 210
th with a time of 30:12.2,
Faith Rotich was 217
th with a time of 31:03.5 and
Aileen Lopez finished 228
th, clocking in at 32:24.9.
Michigan State won the women's team competition with 36 points and had the top runner, Jenna Magness, who finished at 21:05.4. Grand Valley State placed second with 73 points, followed by Toledo (76), Chicago (141), Youngstown State (176), Bowling Green (200), Saginaw Valley (230), Central Michigan (238), Calvin (243), Hope (265), Indianapolis (286), Purdue Fort Wayne (332), Illinois-Springfield (415), St. Norbert (423), Ferris State (426), Northwood (472), Albion (498), Lake Superior State (593), Olivet (608) and Oakland CC (623).
The next competition for the men's and women's cross country teams will be Friday, Oct. 1, at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by the University of Missouri.
