Box Score BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Playing its second match at the expansive SeatGeek Stadium, the Chicago State women's soccer team (0-9, 0-7 WAC) fell to Dixie State (1-6-1, 1-4 WAC), 4-0
"We had a gameplan, and our team followed it early on with urgency," head coach Cristiano Costa said. "However, as the game progressed, we became inconsistent with our intensity and actions, losing sight of the plan. It cost us the game."
In the 5th minute, Dixie State senior midfielder Kelsey Cook tapped in a rebound to power the Trailblazers ahead, 1-0.
The two teams then dueled for nearly 40 scoreless minutes, with Chicago State goalkeeper Stella Chiara Chiaradia adding to her WAC lead in saves, with a helping of timely stops.
Then, in the 43rd minute, Dixie State's Kenna Sparks sliced in a free kick from the left side to extend the Trailblazers' lead to 2-0.
After halftime, star forward Whitley Griffiths struck with two goals. First, the redshirt junior pounded in a score to extend the lead further in the 52nd minute. She then nailed a header in the 71st to cap off an eventual 4-0 win for Dixie State.
For the Cougars, this served as the squad's second home match at SeatGeek Stadium, home of the NWSL's Chicago Red Stars and Chicago House AC of the NISA. The MLS' Chicago Fire also played at SeatGeek from 2006-19.
