CHICAGO--The Chicago State men's basketball team released its 2020-21 schedule today. The Cougars will open the season Nov. 25 at home against Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The home opener marks the first time the Cougars will host a Division I opponent to open a season since doing so Nov. 22, 2000, when CSU welcomed Detroit Mercy to the Jacoby Dickens Center.
Following the opener, the Cougars will then play eight consecutive road non-conference games, six against in-state and city rivals then two games in Iowa. The Cougars non-conference schedule includes games at DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Northwestern, Loyola Chicago, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Drake and Iowa State.
In an effort to minimize both travel and exposure, the Western Athletic Conference's schedule format will feature back-to-back games against the same opponent at the same site. Each team will host four opponents and travel to four opponents over the course of nine weeks. The Cougars will host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (1/8 and 1/9/21) to open conference play then travel to Grand Canyon University (1/15, 1/16), host Cal Baptist University (1/22, 1/23), at Seattle (1/29, 1/30), host Utah Valley (2/5, 2/6), at Tarleton State (2/12, 2/13), vs. Dixie State (2/26, 2/27) before concluding conference play at New Mexico State (3/5, 3/6). The WAC Basketball Tournament is scheduled for March 11-13 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
The 2020-21 schedule is tentative and subject to change. Given current state and local guidelines for COVID-19, fans and media will not be allowed to attend Cougars home games, which is also subject to change.
