Box Score Champaign, Ill. — The Chicago State men's basketball team dropped its third straight game to open the 2020-21 season, dropping a 74-44 decision to N.C. A&T State Friday in the final game of the Illinois Multi-team Event at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
The Aggies capitalized on fast starts to both halves, starting the game with a 7-0 run and coming out of the locker room after the halftime break with an additional 7-0 run to extend a 31-23 halftime lead to 15 points, at 38-23 with 18:12 remaining in the game. NC A&T continued to pull away, outscoring CSU 36-21 the rest of the way.
After N.C. A&T's hot start to begin the game,
Jordan Polynice (San Clarita, Calif. /West Ranch/North Dakota Co. School) connected on a three and
Lou Demuth (Luxembourg City, Luxembourg) converted a layup to cut the Aggies lead to two, 7-5. But the Cougars would get no closer. NC A&T rattled off the next nine points to extend the lead to 16-5.
Carlo Marble (/West Des Moines Valley) connected on a three-pointer to cut the deficit to six, at 23-17, with 6:42 remaining in the first half, and N.C. A&T would outscore the Cougars 8-6 to close out the half to lead 31-23 at halftime.
The Cougars were led by
Rajeir Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) and Polynice, who each finished with 12 points while
Ke'Sean Davis (Compton, Calif./Taft Charter H.S.) was the team leader in rebounds with eight. The Aggies led a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures, led by Jeremy Robinson and Tyrone Lyons, who each scored 14. Kameron Langley led all players with nine rebounds and 11 assists.
Chicago State will travel to Charleston, Illinois, to face Eastern Illinois on Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m. CT from the First Mid Court at Lantz Arena.
