CHICAGO -

OPENING TIP – The Chicago State men's basketball team looks to end its three-game homestand on a good note Thursday night as it welcomes local NAIA member Trinity Christian College to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center in a non-conference battle live on the WAC Digital Network with a start time of 7:05 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU holds a season record of 2-8 and is on a two-game winning streak for the first time since February of 2015 after earning an 80-72 comeback win over Eastern Illinois last Saturday with sophomore guard Travon Bell (Chicago, Ill./Mather) leading five players in double figures by scoring a career high-tying 16 points. Senior guard Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)) is averaging 14.5 points per game, while fellow senior guard Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) ranks second in scoring at 11.9 points a game and leads the Western Athletic Conference in assists at 5.9 per game. Junior forward Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) is producing a team-high 6.1 rebounds a game and is third on the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game.

SCOUTING TCC – Trinity Christian comes to the JCC with a 3-10 record on the season and has posted a 0-5 mark against Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference foes. The Trolls dropped a pair of CCAC games last week with an 82-57 home defeat to St. Francis (Ill.) and an 85-68 road loss to Olivet Nazarene. Sophomore guard Patrick Bray leads three players averaging double figures at 11.4 points per game. Junior forward Joshua Shannon is grabbing a team-best 8.1 rebounds per game as well as posting 18 steals and nine blocked shots, while sophomore guard Terrance Lacey has produced 10.5 points and a team-leading 2.8 assists per game.

SERIES HISTORY – Thursday's game will mark the third non-exhibition meeting on the hardwood between Chicago State and Trinity Christian with the Cougars holding a 2-0 advantage. CSU claimed a 75-52 victory over TCC in the last battle between the two schools on Nov. 22, 2014 with Clarke Rosenberg leading four Cougars in double figures with 18 points.

SHAW NAMED WAC POW – After averaging a rare point-assist double-double last week, Shaw received WAC Player of the Week honors on Monday becoming the first Cougar to win the award since Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) did it on Jan. 16, 2017. He averaged 16 points and 10.5 assists per game in home wins over East-West and Eastern Illinois while recording double-doubles in both games.

ASSISTING THE TEAM – With a career-best 11 assists in the EIU game, Shaw has recorded the most assists by a CSU guard since March 2, 2009 when David Holston ended his collegiate career with 14 assists against Houston Baptist.

LEAGUE DOMINATION – The WAC put on a dominant performance last Saturday as it finished with an 8-1 record on the day which included CSU's win over EIU, defending league champion New Mexico State earning a win over a Pac-12 school (Washington State) at home, and gaining two wins in the Summit League-WAC Challenge through Kansas City (Purdue Fort Wayne) and Utah Valley (Denver).

FACING THE LAND OF LINCOLN – Thursday's game against TCC continues CSU's yearly tradition of taking on multiple opponents from the state of Illinois. The Cougars are currently 2-2 against in-state foes so far this season. Following this game, the Cougars still have four more road games against Illinois teams over the next three weeks in DePaul, Northwestern, Western Illinois and Northern Illinois.

UP NEXT – Chicago State opens a five-game road swing on Wednesday, Dec. 12 with an inter-city battle at Wintrust Arena against host DePaul. The game will have a live broadcast on Fox Sports One with the tip-off set for 7 p.m.
