OPENING TIP – The final game of the calendar year 2018 is on the horizon for the Chicago State men's basketball team as it heads to DeKalb, Ill., tomorrow afternoon for an in-state battle against Northern Illinois at the NIU Convocation Center in its non-conference finale live on ESPN+ that begins at 1 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – Chicago State brings a 3-11 season record to NIU while looking to snap a three-game losing streak following Thursday's 81-52 loss at Western Illinois in the finale of the Summit League/WAC Challenge with sophomore guard Travon Bell (Chicago, Ill./Mather) scoring 13 points to lead the team. The Cougars are led by senior guard Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)), who is tallying 14.7 points per game in addition to posting a team-best seven blocked shots. Harris is also shooting 82 percent from the free throw line and 46 percent from the field this season. Fellow senior guard Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) ranks second on the team with 10.9 points per game while leading the Western Athletic Conference in assists at 5.7 per game. Junior forward Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) is averaging 9.9 points and a team-leading 5.9 rebounds a game.

SCOUTING NIU – Northern Illinois is playing its second game in 48 hours like CSU and holds a 6-5 record on the year but dropped a close 65-62 decision last night at Northern Kentucky. Junior guard Eugene German is averaging a team-best 21 points per game to lead three Huskies in double figures while also posting 1.1 steals per contest. Senior wing Levi Bradley is grabbing a team-high 7.2 rebounds a game to go along with scoring 16.5 points per game, and senior guard Dante Thorpe is producing 11.9 points and a team-leading three assists a game.
 
SERIES HISTORY – Northern Illinois has amassed a 24-0 advantage over Chicago State in a series that date back to 1949. Last season, the Huskies recorded a 95-77 win at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. German led NIU with a game-high 26 points, while Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) led the Green and White with 19 points.

COUGARS GET WAC SPOTLIGHT GAME AT UVU – Chicago State will play in the WAC Spotlight Game of the Week on Feb. 21 against Utah Valley in Orem, Utah as part of a six-game package that will feature the league on ESPN+.

UP NEXT – CSU kicks off Western Athletic Conference play on Jan. 5 with a trip to the state of Missouri to battle rival Kansas City at Swinney Recreation Center with a 2 p.m., start time.
