Chicago State Falls on the Road at Northwestern

Sophomore Travon Bell scored 12 points tonight at Northwestern for CSU

EVANSTON, Ill. – Chicago State men's basketball fell on the road here tonight to host Northwestern by a score of 88-46 in a non-conference battle at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

NU started with an 11-4 run in the opening four and a half minutes of the game before later increasing its advantage to 27-14 with 8:11 left in the stanza. The Green and White then went on a 9-4 scoring drive in a span of 3:20 to slice their deficit to 31-23 following a three-pointer from sophomore Travon Bell (Chicago, Ill./Mather) at the 4:51 mark. A 13-4 run over the last four minutes helped the Wildcats go into halftime ahead by a 44-27 margin.

The home team began the second half with a 26-13 run over a 12-minute stretch to hike its lead to 70-40 and CSU would get no closer than 30 for the rest of the game.

Bell scored 12 points to lead four Cougars in double figures on the night, while senior Rob Shaw (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) finished with 11 points, grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Senior Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)) also recorded 11 points and junior Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) tallied 10 points.

Vic Law and Miller Kopp tied for game high scoring honors for NU as each player posted 17 points.

Chicago State continues its road swing this Thursday afternoon with a trip to downstate Macomb to take on Western Illinois at Western Hall in the final game of the inaugural Summit League/WAC Challenge with a start time of 2 p.m.
