OPENING TIP -Â Chicago State men's basketball continues play in the Grand Cayman Islands Classic tomorrow evening in the state of Ohio with its second campus game of the classic against host Akron at James A. Rhodes Arena live on ESPN+ beginning at 6 p.m.
SCOUTING CSU -Â CSU is seeking its first win of the season after a tightly-contested in-state battle at Illinois State Tuesday night where it dropped a close 75-71 decision to the Redbirds. Three players are currently averaging double figure scoring for the Green and White with senior guard
Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)) leading the group at 13.5 points per game. Junior forward
Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) is second in scoring at 11 points a game and ranks first in rebounds with 8.3 boards per game, and sophomore forward
Cameron Bowles (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) is averaging 10.5 points a game.
SCOUTING UA -Â Akron brings a 2-0 season record into Friday's contest after posting a 98-69 victory over Youngstown State last Saturday. Six Zips are scoring double figure averages on the young season, led by junior wing Daniel Utomi at 16.5 points a game. Senior guard/wing Jimond Ivey leads UA with a field-goal percentage of .611 and eight rebounds per game as well as scoring 15 points a game.
SERIES HISTORY -Â Akron holds a slim 2-1 lead in the all-time series with Chicago State, but Friday's contest marks the first meeting between the two schools in over 30 years. The Zips recorded a 78-58 victory over the Cougars in the last matchup at Rhodes Arena on Feb. 20, 1988. CSU's lone win in the series came during its first NCAA Division I season as it edged out UA by a 65-63 margin in Akron on Feb. 13, 1985.
GRAND CAYMAN ISLANDS CLASSIC – CSU continues the 2018 Grand Cayman Islands Classic tomorrow with a second campus road game at Akron. The Green and White conclude the classic early next week in Johnson City, Tenn., for the classic's Mainland Tournament against host East Tennessee State, Jackson State and Sam Houston State.
UP NEXT – The Cougars continue their road swing in Johnson City, Tenn., where they will battle host East Tennessee State Monday night at Freedom Hall Civic Center in a live broadcast on ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m.
