OPENING TIP - The Chicago State men's basketball team travels downstate to Normal for an in-state showdown against Illinois State at Redbird Arena that will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Chicago tomorrow night starting at 7 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – Chicago State comes into tomorrow's contest with an 0-3 record following last Friday's 101-60 loss at Central Michigan which ended a stretch of playing three games in four days to open the season. Senior guard Anthony Harris (Gary, Ind./Griffith (Ind.)) leads CSU in scoring with an average of 14 points a game while recording team highs of 53 percent shooting from the field and 79 percent at the free throw line. Junior forward Christian Jacob (Gary, Ind./Westside) is grabbing a team-leading 8.7 rebounds per game in addition to ranking second in scoring at 11 points per contest.

SCOUTING ISU – Illinois State enters this week's slate holding a 1-1 season record after dropping a 100-89 decision to host Belmont last Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. The Redbirds have four players that currently average double figure scoring with senior forward Phil Fayne leading the way with 20 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Senior guard Milik Yarbrough is shooting 71 percent from the field and is tied with Fayne for the team's rebounding lead with an average of 6.5 rebounds a game in addition to averaging 12 points per contest.

SERIES HISTORY – Illinois State has amassed a 21-1 advantage over Chicago State in a series that date back to 1926 which includes a 17-1 mark in Normal. Tuesday's game mark the first meeting between the two schools in five years after the Redbirds captured a 75-56 home victory on Dec. 2, 2013 with Quinton Pippen recording a game-high 16 points for CSU.

GRAND CAYMAN ISLANDS CLASSIC – CSU opens the 2018 Grand Cayman Islands Classic this week with campus road games against ISU tomorrow night and Akron on Friday. The Cougars then travel to Johnson City, Tenn., next week for the GCI Classic Mainland Tournament to battle host East Tennessee State, Jackson State and Sam Houston State.
 
DOUBLE-DIPPIN – After a rough start to his season at Indiana, Jacob has been on fire the last two games for CSU by recording double-doubles at Notre Dame (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Central Michigan (19 points, 15 rebounds). The 6-foot-8 native of Gary, Ind., earned third team NJCAA All-America honors at Kankakee (Ill.) Community College after averaging a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

CSU'S PUBLIC CONNECTION – The Cougars have four players on this year's roster that played high school ball in the tough Chicago Public League. Representing the Public League this season are sophomore forward Cameron Bowles (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood), sophomore guard Travon Bell (Chicago, Ill./Mather), redshirt sophomore guard Michael Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Harlan) and junior forward Eugene Witherspoon (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park). In addition, Coach Irvin was an all-city and all-state honoree as a point guard at Julian High School on the city's far southwest side.

UP NEXT – CSU continues its road swing on Friday evening with a trip to Ohio against host Akron in a live online broadcast on ESPN3 with the opening tip set for 6 p.m., central time.
