UTRGV Game Notes

CHICAGO -

Opening Kickoff – Chicago State women's soccer closes out its home schedule on Friday afternoon as it welcomes the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to Gwendolyn Brooks High School Field for a Western Athletic Conference battle which kicks off at 1 p.m. The UTRGV game also marks the final home contest for seniors Sierra Nixon (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) as both student-athletes will be honored in a senior day ceremony.

Scouting CSU – CSU heads into Friday's home finale looking to break its losing skid after falling at home to Grand Canyon (0-3) last Friday and dropping a close 2-1 decision at New Mexico State last Sunday. The Cougars are led in scoring by junior midfielder/forward Sara Quevedo (Lomo Blanco, Spain) as she has tallied 11 points on four goals and a team-best three assists, while freshman forward/midfielder Marissa Beale (Frazier Park, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) has produced eight points on four goals scored. Freshman goalkeeper Judith Sorribes (Barcelona, Spain/Bisbe Berenguer) leads the WAC in total saves (86) and saves per game (9.56) while ranking second among the NCAA Division I goalies in saves per game.

Scouting UTRGV – UTRGV currently sits fourth in the WAC with a 3-1-1 record while producing an overall record of 9-5-2 heading into the Windy City. The Vaqueros extended their unbeaten streak to four games following last Friday's 0-0 double-overtime draw at home. Freshman forward Emily Zapata leads UTRGV in scoring with 21 points and goals scored with 10, and redshirt junior defender Katherine Stokely has dished out a team-best three assists. Junior goalkeeper Kinga Szemik has tallied a 6-5-2 record, a 1.22 goals-against-average and 55 saves this season in addition to producing two shutouts.

Series History – UTRGV holds a 5-0-1 lifetime advantage against Chicago State which includes a 0-2-1 record in Chicago. The Vaqueros recorded a 6-0 victory over the Cougars in the teams' last meeting on Oct. 22, 2017 in Edinburg, Texas.

Moving on Up in the WAC Records List – Wisehart looks to finish off her collegiate career as one of the top all-time goalkeepers in the WAC in terms of saves. Heading into this week's slate, she has produced 392 saves for her career which includes 73 stops this fall and ranks fourth among the all-time league leaders. Wisehart is now 10 saves shy of passing former Nevada goalie Megan Tarpenning (2002-05) for third place on the list.

Entering CSU's Record Books – Quevedo has become CSU's career and single-season leader for assists with three this season while sitting in a tie for second place with sophomore Jensyn Stanberry (Grand Haven, Mich./Fruitport) for points in a career/season with nine. Freshman forward/midfielder Marissa Beale (Frazier Park, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) is also tied with Stanberry for most goals in both career and single-season with four heading into the last four games of the season.

Entering CSU's Record Books… The Sequel – CSU's single-game record for goalkeeper saves has been tied twice within a week's span. Wisehart tallied 17 stops on Sept. 30 against California Baptist to equal her mark set in 2015, but Sorribes placed her name alongside her teammate's after stopping 17 scoring attempts last Sunday at Seattle to set a season-high total.

International Flavor - The Green and White have brought some international flavor to this year's squad with nine players hailing from five countries: Brazil (3), Spain (2), England (1), Australia (1), Hungary (1) and Canada (1).

Up Next – The Cougars travel to the state of Missouri on Oct. 27 to battle the defending WAC champion Kansas City Kangaroos at Durwood Soccer Stadium in the season finale for both teams with a start time of 1 p.m.
