Owens V Scores Game-High 23 Points for CSU Men at NM State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Senior Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) scored a game-high 23 points for the Chicago State men's basketball team as it battled host Western Athletic Conference-leading New Mexico State here tonight in a conference contest at the Pan American Center.
 
The home team connected on 53 percent of its shots from the field to claim an 86-51 victory over the Green and White.
 
Owens V came off the bench to shoot 9-of-16 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range in 36 minutes of action. The 23 points marked his second-highest point total of the season and his third 20-point scoring output this year.
 
The Aggies (22-2, 8-0) opened the game with an 18-2 lead over the first seven minutes of the opening half en route to posting a 49-23 advantage going into halftime. NM State then used a 23-14 run in an 11-minute span of the second stanza to take its biggest lead of the contest at 72-35 with 9:06 left and CSU got no closer the rest of the way.  
 
In addition to Owens' output, senior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds and added nine points for CSU (6-19, 1-7).
 
Matt Taylor shot 5-of-8 from the field to score 17 points in leading three NMSU players in double figures.
 
The Cougars open a two-game homestand next week at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center that begins on Thursday, Feb. 9 with a WAC contest against Seattle U starting at 7:05 p.m.
