Palmer Posts Double-Double as Cougars Open Final Road Swing at UMKC

KANSAS CITY – Senior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) recorded his Western Athletic Conference-leading 14th double-double as visiting Chicago State men's basketball opened its final road swing of the season here at Municipal Auditorium on Saturday afternoon with an 84-65 loss to host UMKC.
 
Palmer finished with 18 points to lead three CSU players in double figures and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
The host 'Roos shot a blistering 59 percent from the field, including 47 percent of their shots from three-point range, to gain a 45-32 advantage after the first half while gaining a close 39-33 leading margin in the second half for the win.
 
CSU held game advantages over the hosts in rebounds (44-37), points in the paint (34-28), second chance points (18-10) and fast break points (12-2).
 
Sophomore Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) added 16 points with eight rebounds for the Green and White, while senior Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) produced 13 points.
 
Four players scored in double figures for UMKC with Kyle Steward leading the way by scoring a game-high 19 points.
 
Chicago State continues its road swing on Thursday, Feb. 23 in Phoenix when it takes on host Grand Canyon at GCU Arena with a start time of 8 p.m.
