Men’s Basketball Ends Homestand against Utah Valley

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's basketball team closed out its weekend Western Athletic Conference homestand at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center this afternoon after falling to visiting Utah Valley by a score of 87-54.
 
After recording a 37-18 advantage in the first half, UVU connected on 60 percent of its field-goal attempts as it outscored CSU in the second half, 50-36, for the win. The Green and White finished the game with a 10-6 leading margin in steals over the visitors.
 
The Cougars (6-21, 1-9) were led by sophomore Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) as he scored a team-leading 16 points and connected on 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
Senior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) nearly tallied a double-double as he finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Patrick Szpir (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) recorded eight points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Delundre Dixon (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) recorded a game-high four steals.
 
Conner Toolson scored a game-high 17 points to lead four Utah Valley (11-13, 3-6) players in double figures, while Isaac Neilson produced a double-double of a game-high 12 rebounds and 10 points.
 
Chicago State heads to Kansas City on Feb. 18 to open a three-game road swing against host UMKC at Municipal Auditorium with the opening tip set for 5:05 p.m.
