CSU-UTRGV Game Notes

CHICAGO - The Chicago State men's basketball team resumes Western Athletic Conference action on Saturday night in Texas as it battles the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – Winners of two of their last three contests, the Cougars enter Saturday's rematch with UTRGV sporting a record of 6-15 overall with a 1-3 mark against conference opponents. The Green and White closed out their non-conference schedule Wednesday night with a 77-57 home win over Roosevelt behind the dynamic duo of sophomore guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) [game-high 28 points] and senior guard/forward Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) [27 points, 10 rebounds]. Sims, Jr., the reigning WAC Player of the Week, leads the team in scoring at 19 points per game, while Palmer is averaging 15.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game to go along with a WAC-leading 10 double-doubles.

SCOUTING UTRGV – UTRGV looks to break a three-game losing streak on Saturday as it holds a 9-12 record and is 1-3 in WAC play to remain tied with CSU for seventh place. The Vaqueros dropped a pair of conference home games last week to CSU Bakersfield (81-88) and Grand Canyon (66-79). Sophomore guard Antonio Green is averaging a team-best 17.6 points per game in addition to shooting 42 percent from three-point range on the season. Redshirt junior guard Nick Dixon is recording team-leading numbers of 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game to go along with connecting on 52 percent of his field-goal attempts while posting a scoring average of 17.4 points.

SERIES HISTORY – UTRGV currently holds a close 11-9 lead in the all-time with CSU that includes posting wins in the last three meetings. The Vaqueros recorded an 83-64 win on Jan. 5 in the conference opener for both teams at the Jones Convocation Center with Palmer recording a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars.

CHURCH APPRECIATION DAY – The Cougars will host "Church Appreciation Day" on Jan. 26 against CSU Bakersfield at the Jones Convocation Center where church groups will receive free admittance to the game.

UP NEXT – The Green and White return to the friendly confines of the Jones Convocation Center next week for a two-game conference homestand that begins on Thursday, Jan. 26 versus CSU Bakersfield at 7:05 p.m.
