Cougars Fall to Missouri-Kansas City in Home Finale

Fred Sims, Jr. scored 11 points to lead Chicago State in its season finale against UMKC

CHICAGO – Chicago State men's basketball team concluded its regular season schedule Saturday afternoon after suffering an 82-53 defeat to visiting Missouri-Kansas City at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

Prior to the game, Jawad Adekoya (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), Jared Dimakos (Schaumburg, Ill./Lake Forest Academy), Devon Friend (Joliet, Ill./Bolingbrook) and Kieran Woods (Chicago, Ill./Crane) were honored in senior day ceremony. The Green and White also held advantages over the Kangaroos in rebounds (38-37) and bench points (31-22).

Freshman Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) led the Cougars (4-27, 0-14) with 11 points and connected on all six of his attempts from the free throw line. Junior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) produced a pair of game highs with nine rebounds and two steals to go along with six points and three assists.

UMKC (11-18, 4-10) has four players score in double figures with LaVell Boyd leading the way with a game-high 26 points.

Chicago State heads into next week's WAC Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas as the seventh seed with a quarterfinal showdown against second-seeded CSU Bakersfield on Thursday with a start time of 4:30 p.m., Pacific Time.
