Cougars Open Month-Long Road Swing at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Chicago State men's basketball opened a month-long road swing here Saturday night as it battled tough against host Notre Dame before dropping a 91-60 decision at Purcell Pavilion.
 
The Cougars came back from an early 4-3 deficit in the first two minutes of the first half with a quick 6-2 run in another two-minute span to capture a 10-6 lead at the 15:21 mark on a pair of senior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) free throws. A 44-21 run in the final 15 minutes, which included Matt Ryan scoring 20 points during that stretch, helped propel the home team to a 50-31 lead heading into halftime.
 
ND opened the second half with a 26-16 scoring run in the first 10 minutes to increase its advantage to 73-47 and cruised on to the win.
 
Palmer finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds and two steals while shooting 3-of-6 from three-point range for CSU (2-3). Sophomore Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) added 11 points and junior Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) dished out a team-high four assists.
 
Four players scored in double figures for the Fighting Irish (6-0), led by Matt Ryan's game-high 23 points.
 
CSU continues its road swing on Wednesday, Nov. 30 back in Chicago against UIC at the UIC Pavilion in an ESPN3 broadcast beginning at 7 p.m.
