Men’s Basketball Drops 78-64 Decision at UMKC

KANSAS CITY – The Chicago State men's basketball team kicked off a three-game road swing here this afternoon at Municipal Auditorium against Western Athletic Conference foe Missouri-Kansas City, but the host Kangaroos would claim a 78-64 decision.
 
The Cougars saw their record fall to 4-20 (0-7) with the loss, while UMKC improved its record to 9-13 (2-5).
 
Freshman Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale), equaled his season scoring high as he tallied a game-leading 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and also connected on 4-of-5 from the free throw line to lead the Green and White.
 
CSU also received nine points from redshirt sophomore Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers), while junior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) posted a game-high three steals to go along with seven points and a team-best five rebounds.
 
The Kangaroos had three players score in double figures for the game, led by LaVell Boyd's 22 points.
 
Chicago State continue its road swing on Thursday, Feb. 4 as it travels to Seattle for a WAC showdown that will be shown live nationally on the American Sports Network with the opening tip set for 7 p.m., Pacific Time. The game will be shown locally on the CSN Chicago Plus channel on Comcast Cable.
