CSU Women’s Golf Jumps to Fifth Place Tie at PGA Minority Championships

Sophomore Fernanda Valdes Solis shot a 77 to lead CSU in the second round of the PGA Minority Championship
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Chicago State University women's golf team closed out the second day of play Saturday at the 29th annual PGA Minority Championships by jumping up one notch into a tie for fifth place at the Ryder Course in the PGA Golf Club.

CSU improved its standing by shooting a team score of 320 to make its two-day score a 637 to be even with Hampton. Bethune-Cookman, the three-time defending champion, still leads the field with a 589 after carding a 294 in the second round.

Sophomore Fernanda Valdes Solis (Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico/Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey) continued her outstanding play in the tournament by producing a second-round score of 77 to make her total score a 152. Fellow sophomore Tali Letoi (Lakeside, Calif./El Capitan) shot an 80 to make her score a 157.

Junior Taneka Sandiford (Nassau, Bahamas/St. John's College High School) and freshman Pia Serrano (San Antonio, Texas/Antonian College Preparatory) have improved their scores to 164 after carding second round scores of 81 and 82, respectively. Freshman TiAnna Ford (Roy, Wash./Yelm) rounds out the scoring for the Green and White with a two-day total of 193 (86-107).

The Cougars finish off the tournament tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m., central time.
