Chicago State Tied for Seventh After Opening Day at Lady Bison Spring Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Chicago State women's golf turned in a strong opening-day performance at the Lady Bison Spring Invitational on Monday, finishing the first two rounds tied for seventh place at Hawkstone Country Club. The Cougars were led by freshman Hannah Butzer, who delivered one of the top rounds in the field and sits tied for third at +4 heading into Tuesday's final round.

Butzer opened the tournament with a steady +4, placing her among the leaders on a tightly packed leaderboard.

Chicago State placed three golfers inside the top 40, giving the team a solid foundation for a final-round push.
 
Cougar Highlights from Day One
  • Hannah Butzer — T3 (+4) Butzer's opening-round positioned her just three shots off the lead and as one of only a handful of players inside the top five.
  • Begona Perez — T28 (+15) Perez showed consistency across both rounds, carding +10 in Round 1 and +5 in Round 2 to finish the day at +15.
  • Aarushi Bhanot — T35 (+16) Bhanot made one of the team's biggest moves, improving from a +13 opening round to a +3 in Round 2.
  • Almudena Aguera — 58th (+33) Aguera trimmed seven strokes off her first-round score, posting +20 and +13 across the two rounds.
 
Looking Ahead
With Butzer inside the top three and multiple Cougars positioned to climb, Chicago State enters Tuesday's final round with momentum and an opportunity to move further up the leaderboard. The team's balanced scoring across the lineup has placed the Cougars firmly in contention in Gainesville.
