Litchfield, Ariz. – The Western Athletic Conference Championship (April 20-22) hosted by CSU at the Wigwam Golf Resort - Heritage Course on its par 72, 6291-yard layout.
The conference schools include Seattle, New Mexico State, Texas-Pan American, Cal State Bakersfield, Utah Valley, UMKC, and Grand Canyon (competing as individuals only) totaling a 40-player field.
New Mexico State holds the overall lead after day one thanks to a score of 292. Alexus Song (Seattle) leads the tournament individually with a 2-under par 70.The Cougars posted a 42-over par 330 team score in round one to sit in 6th place.
Freshmen
Pia Serrano (San Antonio, Texas/Antonian College Preparatory)Â led the Chicago State women's golf team in the opening round of the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Championship with an 81 (T-26th).Â
Tali Letoi (Lakeside, Calif./El Capitan) was one shot behind Serrano with an 82 (T28th).
TiAnna Ford (Roy, Wash./Yelm) totaled an 83 to sit in (T-30th).
Fernanda Valdes Solis (Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico/Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey) and
Taneka Sandiford (Nassau, Bahamas/St. John's College High School) scored an 84 to sit in a tie for 33rd.Â
