Men’s Basketball Falls at DePaul to End Road Swing

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Chicago State men's basketball finished off its five-game road swing here Saturday afternoon as it fell to host DePaul by a score of 96-72 at Allstate Arena.
 
The Cougars (3-6) posted a 13-5 run during the early stages of the first half that ended with a dunk from junior Quron Davis (Chicago, Ill./Simeon) at the 15:34 mark. DePaul later broke a 27-27 tie with a 22-8 scoring drive in seven-plus minutes to gain a 49-35 advantage after a three-point play from Tommy Hamilton with 1:27 left in the stanza, but CSU scored the final three points to go into halftime down by 11 at 49-38. 
 
The home team opened the second half by scoring 13 of the first 21 points in another seven-minute span to increase its leading margin to 62-46 and never looked back from there.
 
CSU was led by freshman Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale), who recorded a season-best 22 points in 32 minutes off the bench while adding six rebounds and three assists. Senior Jawad Adekoya (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and Davis each tied their career scoring highs with 17 points and 10 points, respectively, with Davis grabbing a team-leading seven rebounds.
 
DePaul (4-3) had six players score in double figures for the game with Eli Cain tallying a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field.
 
The Green and White return to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center on Friday, Dec. 11 for a showdown against Horizon League champion Valparaiso. The game will be broadcast live online at the WAC Digital Network with a start time of 7:05 p.m. CSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting a toy drive with fans being asked to bring a toy to the game.
