Men’s Basketball Ends Short Road Swing at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Chicago State men's basketball ended its two-game road swing here this afternoon as it fell to host Ball State at BSU's Worthen Arena by a score of 73-48.
 
Both teams struggled in the first half with the host Cardinals claiming a 27-19 halftime lead, but the Green and White came back with seven unanswered points in the first two minutes of the second half to close its deficit to two points at 27-25 on a layup from junior Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) at the 18:09 mark.
 
A 20-5 run over a seven-plus minute span helped BSU hike its leading margin to 47-32 with 11:29 remaining and would cruise the rest of the way.
 
Freshman Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) led Chicago State (4-12) offensively as he tallied 15 points and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line to lead all scorers. Redshirt sophomore Clemmye Owens V (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) contributed 12 points and junior Jordan Madrid-Andrews (Denver, Colo./Bishop Machebeauf) grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds.
 
Ball State (9-4) had three players score in double figures led by Ryan Weber's 14 points.
 
The Cougars kick off Western Athletic Conference play on Jan. 9 when they host Seattle at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center with a start time of 2:05 p.m.
