Women’s Soccer Provides Tough Battle with Eastern Illinois at Home

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's soccer team closed out its non-conference slate this afternoon with a tough battle against Eastern Illinois at the Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium. The Panthers escaped the contest with a 2-0 victory, but the Cougars did prove their mettle.

The first half was a defensive battle for the Green and White as it stifled EIU's 17 shot attempts and freshman Carrie Hepp (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) stopped eight of those shots from crossing the Cougar goal as the game went into intermission as a scoreless tie.

The score remained the same until the 59th minute when Hannah Miller scored off a pass from Chris Reed to give the visitors a 1-0 lead and she scored again in the 82nd minute to close the scoring.

Hepp added nine more saves in the second stanza to finish with 17 to close out her day.

"Collectively, the team put in a great team effort that serves as a foundation going into WAC play next weekend more so with the relentless effort provided by our defense and the 17 saves by Carrie Hepp (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) in goal, CSU head coach Tony Tommasi said. "We will continue to build on this effort as we have done with other this season."

The Cougars return to action on Sept. 28 when they welcome Kansas City to Kroc Stadium in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams with a start time of 1 p.m.
