The 2014 Lady Cougars are out to prove they are a true force to be reckoned with.
Â
Fresh off of a weekend where they hosted The CSU Cougar Invite at The Jacoby Dickens Center, the Cougars will again host a weekend event over the next forty-eight hours,
The Chicago State Tournament, this Friday and Saturday at the familiar JDC, on CSU's campus. Â Â
Â
After welcoming IU Northwest, Purdue North Central, Mount Mercy University, and Trinity International to their home court, and sweeping the weekend of play by going 4-0 in imposing fashion, including a spectacular combined set total of 12-1, the Cougars will now continue their pursuit of an elongated win-streak by ushering in Grand Canyon University, San Jose State, UMass Lowell, and South Dakota State to the South Side, for a new slate of fierce opposition.
Â
The Cougars will again play four matches over the two day duration, with their first one, which will be the first Western Athletic Conference match-up of the season, coming against the lady Antelopes of Grand Canyon University (7-3) on Friday at 10 AM CST. CSU will follow that match by squaring off against the Spartans of San Jose State (0-9) at 5:00 PM CST on Friday evening.
Â
After the two initial matches on Friday, the lady Cougars will then proceed with their weekend efforts on Saturday at 12:00 PM CST against the lady River Hawks of UMass Lowell (1-10), and will eventually conclude their ambitious weekend on their home court with a Saturday evening match against the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State (4-8) at 7:00 PM CST.
Â
While Chicago State's record currently sits at 5-6, this 2014 team has already set school records in a few major categories thus far. With their complete sweep of The CSU Cougar Invite last weekend, CSU won their first home game since 2007, broke a record for most ever home wins in a row (4), while simultaneously amassing more wins than they have in any previous season.
Â
In speaking on continuing the significant win-streak, while also maintaining focus on each individual match and not looking too far ahead, Coach
Dawn Barnes said --
"We will go into the weekend not taking any of these teams lightly. If we execute our game plan, stay focused, and be fundamentally sound, we will be just fine. The girls are excited to play Grand Canyon first, and hopefully continue the winning streak."Â
The three schools traveling to Chicago for the weekend will all square off against each other as well, with the volleyball beginning at 10 AM CST on Friday for CSU's first WAC game against Grand Canyon, subsequently being played constantly throughout the two-day span, and eventually concluding with Chicago State's Saturday evening match against South Dakota State.
Â
All games will take place at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Chicago State's Campus and will be free of admission.Â
