CHICAGO - The Chicago State volleyball team concluded the first day of the CSU Cougar Classic on a good note as it captured a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Purdue North Central tonight at the Jacoby Dickens Center.
The Cougars improved their season record to 3-6 with the win, while the Panthers saw their record fall to 1-7.
Junior Elli Woinowsky (Berlin, Germany/Merian Oberschule) tied for match high honors in kills by finishing with 10 for the Green and White. Sophomore Chinwendu Ngwadom (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) produced nine kills and hit .467 (9-2-15) on the evening, and junior Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon) tallied a .556 hitting clip (6-1-9) with three block assists. Also leading the Cougars was freshman Sarah Metcalfe (Huntington Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos), who recorded a pair of match highs with 32 assists and three service aces, and junior Chelsea Sheldon-Medina (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) contributed seven kills.
Purdue North Central was paced by junior Cami Webster, who produced 10 kills and three block assists on the night.

CSU is back in action tomorrow afternoon against Mount Mercy at 3 p.m., and close out the classic versus Trinity International at 7 p.m.
