Coming off of a weekend where the lady Cougars hosted The Windy City Classic at The Jacoby Dickens Center on CSU's campus, the team will turn right around and welcome another grouping of college volleyball programs at home this weekend for the CSU Cougar Invite.
Â
After playing host to UIC, Depaul, and Syracuse last weekend, the lady Cougars will see IU Northwest, Purdue North Central, Mount Mercy University, and Trinity International University make their way to the South Side of Chicago for two days of volleyball action.
Â
The Cougars will play four matches in total over the two day span, with their first one coming against the lady Redhawks of IU Northwest (0-8) on Friday at 3:00 PM CST. CSU will follow that match by facing off against the Panthers of Purdue North Central at 7:00 PM CST on Friday evening.
Â
After the two inaugural matches on Friday, the Cougars will then continue their weekend endeavors on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM CST against the Mustangs of Mount Saint Mercy (3-5), and will ultimately cap off their fully slated weekend with a Saturday evening match against the Trojans of Trinity International (6-3) at 7:00 PM CST.
Â
Coming off of a weekend where they saw their efforts fall a bit short in falling to 1-6 overall, Cougars head coach,
Dawn Barnes, is looking for her team to embrace their character and refine the momentum of their season before they head into conference play. Coach Barnes said about this upcoming weekend --
"We are hoping that this weekend we find our identity. We practiced all week working on basic things and continue to improve each and every day to get better as a program, which I am sure we will do. We will take what we saw the last two weekends and learn from it and continue to get better as we prepare for our WAC play."Â
Speaking on the roles she expects the leaders of her team to take on, Coach Barnes mentioned --
"I expect that Chelsea Sheldon-Medina (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North), Essence Jackson-Jones (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon), and Elisa Woinowsky will continue to lead us offensively. Sarah Metcalfe (Huntington Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) will continue to distribute the ball and keep us in the game defensively.'Â
All three teams included in the impending weekend of play will be facing off against each other as well, with the volleyball commencing at 10 AM CST on Friday, and concluding with Chicago State's Saturday evening match against Trinity International.
Â
All games will take place at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Chicago State's Campus.Â
