Orlando, Fla. - The Chicago State women's tennis team was defeated by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon (March 11).
The Cougars picked up their only point by winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Marnie Perez-Ochoa (Louisville, Ky./Male) and freshman
Faith Huckabee (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) won 8-4 over Jenny Blackburne and Ffion Davies. Senior
Karyn Emeralda (Jakarta, Indonesia/) and freshman
Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia/) took home a 8-6 victory over Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza. Iasmin Rosa and Tacy Haws-Lay won the other doubles match 8-3 over freshman
Kirsa Utech (Nindorf, Germany/Meldorfer Gelehrtenschule) and sophomore
Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing).Â
In singles action, Utech won a set, but lost 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 to Magni. Lloyd also took a set, but fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Blackburne. Pangestu took the second set, but suffered a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 defeat to Haws-Lay. Rosa was a 7-6, 6-2 winner over Huckabee while Perez-Ochoa went down 6-0, 6-0 to to Davies. Souza was victorious over sophomore
Gema Bolado Yusta (Madrid, Spain./IES Lázaro Cárdenas) 7-5, 6-4.Â
The Cougars fell to 5-11 on the season while South Dakota improved to 8-5. Chicago State continues their Florida trip vs. Coastal Carolina tomorrow (March 12). The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET.Â
