Women's Tennis Picks Up First Win of the Season Over Conference Foe Mercyhurst

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Chicago State University defeated Mercyhurst 6-1 on Friday. CSU secured the victory by winning five of the six singles matches and taking the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

Chicago State claimed the doubles point with victories on two courts. At No. 3 doubles, the pair of Nadjema Morille and Nikita Liyanage secured a 6-4 win over Mollie Gray and Celeste Davis. The decisive point was clinched by Karolina Skowronska and Mackenzie King at No. 1 doubles, where they defeated Simone Mercier and Kiersten Brown 7-5. Mercyhurst's duo of Daria Rogova and Ellyana Jacobs took the No. 2 doubles match, narrowly edging Camila Sanchez and Danina Hughes 7-6(8).

In singles play, the Cougars extended their lead with Karolina Skowronska's comeback win at No. 1 singles, where she defeated Daria Rogova 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. Camila Sanchez added another point at No. 2 singles with a straight-set victory over Simone Mercier, finishing 6-2, 6-4. Mercyhurst's Kiersten Brown earned the home team's sole singles win at No. 3 singles, overcoming Nikita Liyanage 6-2, 6-2.

Chicago State clinched the dual match with a win at No. 4 singles, as Mackenzie King secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ellyana Jacobs. Danina Hughes further widened the margin at No. 5 singles, winning a tightly contested battle against Celeste Davis 6-2, 7-6(9). Nadjema Morille completed the overall 6-1 victory for the Cougars, concluding the day with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Mollie Gray at No. 6 singles.
