Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) led Chicago State with 10 kills in the Cougars' 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-21) loss to Denver in a non-conference match on Friday (Sept. 6) evening. The match was the first of three for the Cougars in the UIC Invitational.
The Cougars built a lead as large as 16-6 in the third set thanks to a pair of 7-0 runs. Junior
Julia Menhart (Augsburg, Germany/FOS Friedberg) earned three consecutive aces in the second 7-0 stretch. However the Pioneers rallied back to take the set and the match.

Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) recorded a match-high 15 digs for CSU. Her total equals the 15 she had in four sets against Providence last weekend for a season best.
Denver's Moni Corrujedo added a match-high 11 kills. She helped the Pioneers improve to 3-1. Chicago State falls to 0-5 with the loss. The Cougars return to UIC on Saturday for a pair of matches at the UIC Invitational. Chicago State plays UIC at noon and Marshall at 5:00 p.m.
