Syracuse Tops Chicago State Volleyball In Three Sets

SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– Chicago State volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-21) non-conference match at Atlantic Coast Conference member Syracuse on Saturday (Sept. 14) morning. It was the Cougars' final match at the Candlewood Suites Challenge.
 
Senior Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) led the Cougars in kills for the third consecutive match. Sioto recorded nine kills against the Orange. Junior Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) added eight kills. Senior Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) recorded six kills and freshman Chinwendu Ngwadom (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) notched three kills.
 
The closet set was the third. The Cougars held a 14-10 advantage after a solo block by senior Madeleine Radtke (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore). Five points later, all for Syracuse, and Chicago State trailed 15-14. Syracuse kept the pressure on and grabbed a 23-17 lead. The Cougars followed with three straight points to make it a 23-20 score. But Syracuse scored two of the next three points to put the match away.
 
Nicolette Serratore recorded a match-high 12 kills for Syracuse. The Orange found success at the net, out-blocking the Cougars 9-2.
 
The Cougars fall to 2-9. Syracuse is now 4-5. Chicago State returns home on Tuesday (Sept. 17) evening for a non-conference match with Western Illinois at 7 p.m.
