CHICAGO – Six Cougars finished in double-digits to help Chicago State men's basketball defeat Urbana 82-74 in a non-conference contest on Saturday (Feb. 16) afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center.

Chicago State closed the game on a 15-4 run to ice the contest. The key moment was Urbana's Armond Battle picking up his fourth and fifth fouls in a span of 25 seconds with 3:52 remaining in the game. Battle finished with a game-high 26 points but Urbana scored only four points after he was disqualified.

Juniors Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg/Missouri State-West Plains CC) and Jamere Dismukes (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East) (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East/BlackHawk College) led Chicago State with 14 points. Senior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower/Iowa Western) and junior Matt Ross (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) (Dixon, Ill./Dixon/Sauk Valley CC) each had 13 points for the Cougars. Junior Nate Duhon (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) (Lansing, Mich./Sexton/Lansing CC) scored 12 points. Junior Aaron Williams (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Vocational) (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Vocational/Dodge City CC) receorded 11 points in just eight minutes off the bench.

“Aaron really gave us a great effort,” Chicago State head coach Tracy Dildy said. “A guy like that you have to reward.”

Urbana shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) in the first half to give the Blue Knights a 43-39 halftime advantage. However Chicago State limited Urbana to just 32.1 percent (9-of-28) shooting in the second half to help the Cougars to the win.

“I was really disappointed in the way we played,” Dildy said. “We won the game but I didn't like the way we won the game. The past few days all we did was concentrate on defense and we're just not getting it. You give a team 43 points at half, that's not a good defensive showing.”

“I'm not saying it boasting, I'm very humble,” Dildy continued. “I just have higher expectations on the way we should play basketball.”

The Cougars did most of their damage at the charity stripe. Chicago State made 25-of-34 attempts. Setting a season-high for both categories. The last time Chicago State made 25 free throws in a game was Feb. 3, 2011 at Houston Baptist. The Cougars went 26-of-41 from the line in the overtime loss to the Huskies.

The win moves Chicago State to 8-17 on the season, doubling last season's win total. Urbana is 10-16. The Cougars play at Nebraska Omaha on Tuesday (Feb. 19) in a non-conference contest at 7:00 p.m.
