Three Cougars Record Season-Best Performances At WAC Championship

SEATTLE – Chicago State junior DeShaunte Lewis (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) led the Cougars at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Nov. 2). Lewis was one of three Cougars to record their best times of the season. The 8K event was hosted by Seattle U.
 
Lewis finished in 21st with a personal best time of 26:38.20. Junior David Prchal (Omaha, Neb./Millard South) finished in 48th (30:56.60). Freshman Charles Blackhawk (Gary, Ind./Westside) was two spots behind Prchal with a 50th place finish (32:16.30). Freshman Gabriel Martell (El Paso, Texas /Austin) ran the course in a season-best 32:51.60 for a 51st place finish. Freshman Khalil Tookes (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge Area ) finished in 52nd with his best time of the season (33:43.70). Freshman Tyler Whittler (University Park, Ill./Crete-Monee High School) totaled a time of 33:44.40, good for 53rd.
 
The Cougars finished eighth with a total of 222 points. Utah Valley won the team title despite Idaho holding the top three individual performances. Idaho freshman Nicholas Boersma won the individual title.
 
Chicago State is back in action on Nov. 8 at the Northern Illinois Huskie Open.
