MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama State upended Chicago State men's hoops 79-75 on Monday (Nov. 18) evening at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on ASU's campus. The game was part of the Global Sports Invitational.
At the 4:33 mark of the first half, Chicago State led the game 29-24. The Cougars wouldn't score a point again until senior
Nate Duhon (Lansing, Mich./Sexton)'s jumper with 16:04 on the clock in the second half. The nearly eight minute 15-0 stretch put the Hornets up 10 at 39-29 following a 3-pointer by Jamel Waters.

Matt Ross (Dixon, Ill./Dixon). The Cougars played it straight defensively on the other end and Waters made Chicago State pay thanks to draining a jumper late in the shot clock to put Alabama State up 73-67. Seconds later senior
Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) made a 3-pointer on the other end. Waters was then fouled by Chicago State. He made a pair of free throws to put Alabama State up 75-70. Junior
Clarke Rosenberg (Skokie, Ill./Evanston Township) went to the basket and was fouled on a layup attempt with 21 seconds. He made the layup and went to the line for the three point play. However he missed his foul shot. Alabama State gained the rebound and made free throws the rest of the way to earn the 79-75 decision over Chicago State.Â
Pippen finished with career highs in points (21) and assists (8). He set a career high with 11 rebounds against Alabama State last season. Rosenberg added 14 points. Ross had 12.
"We had a run in the first half, they had a run in the second half," Chicago State head coach
Tracy Dildy said. "It was really a great game to watch. I'm proud of our fight from start to finish. In the end Alabama State had some real height in the middle and it wore us down. But we had a lot of positives and we'll go back and prepare for a talented Illinois team on Friday."
The two teams shot nearly idential from the field. The Cougars were 26-of-55 while Alabama State finished 26-of-56. The difference was Alabama State made six 3-pointers to Chicago State's five. Also the Horners were 21-of-26 from the line while Chicago State was 18-of-25. The two teams combined to take eight free throw attempts in the first half and 43 in the second.
Alabama State improves to 3-2 with the win. The Cougars are now 2-3. Chicago State travels to Illinois on Friday for an 8 p.m. CT start. The game will be aired live on BTN.Â
