Chicago State men's basketball (5-14, 0-1 GWC) hosts their first Great West Conference game of the season on Saturday (Jan. 19) when the Houston Baptist Huskies (4-13, 0-2 GWC) come to the Jones Convocation Center for a 5:00 p.m. start. The contest will be the first game of a doubleheader at the JCC. A women's contest with NJIT will follow.
SERIES HISTORY -
Chicago State leads the all-time series with Houston Baptist 5-4. The Cougars took a pair of contests from the Huskies last year. Chicago State won 98-95 in overtime in Chicago on Jan. 21, 2012. The Cougars then won 65-56 in Houston on Feb. 16, 2012.
DESTINATION: WAC 2013-14 -
Chicago State has accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference. The Cougars will join the WAC for the 2013-14 season.
BACK-TO-BACK -
Following Saturday's game with Houston Baptist, the Cougars return on Sunday to play Loyola at 7:05 p.m. The game will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television. It will be the second time this year Chicago State plays back-to-back games. The Cougars lost at Valparaiso on Nov. 23 and then fell in a neutral site game to Nebraska Omaha the next day.
ALREADY BETTER -
The Cougars' victory over Benedictine-Springfield on Jan. 14 was their fifth of the season, besting 2011-12's total of four.
FREE BASKETBALL -
Chicago State and NJIT played a three overtime contest on Saturday (Jan. 12) with NJIT winning 83-78. It was Chicago State's longest game since going four overtimes in a 123-121 loss to Utah Valley on Jan. 29, 2009.
BALANCED ATTACK -
The Cougars are the only team in the Great West Conference with five players averaging 8.0 points per game or more.
FREE FOR ALL -
In CSU's loss at UNLV on Jan. 3, the Cougars made all 12 free throw attempts. The last time Chicago State went perfect at the line was when they went 9-for-9 at UTPA on Feb. 18.

Chicago State leads the Great West Conference in free throw percentage by making 194-of-261 (.743).
FROM BEYOND THE ARC -
Chicago State leads the Great West Conference in 3-pointers per game with 7.2. The 13 treys Chicago State made against Concordia (Ill.) on Nov. 13 are the most by a GWC team in a game this year.

Mashawn Chamberlain (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle)'s cousin is New Orleans Hornets forward Anthony Davis. The No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft Davis was in the stands to see Chamberlain when the Cougars played at Tulane on Nov. 18.

Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) was named the 2011-12 Great West Conference Newcomer of the Year last season.

Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) as their 2012-13 Preseason Great West Conference Player of the Year Selection. The GWC head coaches picked Robinson as a 2012-13 All-Preseason First Team selection.

Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) was a CSU Athletic Director's Honor Roll choice last year for a GPA over 3.50.
Nate Henry (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) was named a Cougar Scholar Athlete for a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49

Junior
Jamere Dismukes (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East) earned First Team All-NJCAA Region IV Division II honors at BlackHawk College.
Nate Duhon (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) picked up Second Team NJCAA Division II All-American and Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Player of the Year honors at Lansing CC.
