OXFORD, Ohio – Chicago State volleyball fell 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 to Temple in a non-conference match on the campus of Miami (Ohio) during the first day of the Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational on Friday (Sept. 7) afternoon.

The Owls were able to avoid sophomore Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) as the defensive specialist saw her streak of nine consecutive double-digit dig contests come to an end with a team-high eight. Townsell also had a pair of aces in the contest.

Temple finished the match with a 47-28 edge in digs.

Sophomore Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) led the Cougars with eight kills.

Chicago State held a 7-5 advantage in the third set only to see Temple respond with an 8-0 streak. A Cougars timeout in the middle of the run couldn't stop the Owls. Chicago State had a match-high 13 kills in the third set, but couldn't match Temple's 16 kills and no errors in the frame.

Temple improves to 5-3 with the victory. Chicago State falls to 2-8. The Cougars continue play in the Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational on Saturday. Chicago State plays host Miami at 9 a.m. and Indiana State at 4 p.m.
