DAYTON, Ohio – Despite a triple-double of 25 assists, 12 kills and 10 digs from junior Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo/Martin Methodist College), Chicago State women's volleyball dropped a non-conference match 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 28-26) at Wright State on Tuesday (Sept. 18) evening.

Sioto was one of four Cougars to reach double-digit kills. Freshman Alyssa Podwell (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glenn, Ill./Providence Catholic), senior Sydney Van Munster (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland) (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland/Grand Rapids CC) and sophomore Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) each had 10. Desiderio also added 13 digs for a double-double.

Statistically, it was one of the best matches of the season for the Cougars. In addition to Sioto's night, junior Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) recorded a career-high 38 digs. It is the most digs by a Great West Conference player this year. The last GWC student-athlete to reach 38 digs was South Dakota's Carol Logato. She totaled 45 against NJIT on Oct. 23, 2010.

The opening set was all Cougars, with Chicago State putting strings of two or more points together seven times. It included a 6-1 start to the match for the Cougars.

The Raiders bounced back to take the second and third sets. It set up a dramatic fourth set with 16 ties and eight lead changes. Chicago State turned away a Wright State match point at 25-24 on a block by Van Munster and sophomore Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike). Brewer followed with a kill to make it 25-24 and earn the Cougars a set point of their own. Wright State scored two straight to earn another match point at 26-25. Van Munster came back with a kill to tie it at 26. However it would be the last point Chicago State would score as the Raiders won it with back-to-back tallies.

“We had some impressive individual performances tonight but we didn't get what we needed from our outsides,” head coach Bob Eskew said. “Paula did a great job and Alyssa hit double-digits kills for the first time in her career."

Both teams are now 2-15. The Cougars take an extended break before returning to the court on Sept. 29 against Houston Baptist on Chicago State's campus. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in the GWC opener for the Cougars.
