CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball fell to Loyola 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-15) in the Cougars' first match of Loyola's Rambler Challenge at Gentile Arena on Friday (Sept. 14) afternoon.
A 7-1 Loyola run to start the contest led to a 25-13 Ramblers victory in the first set. Sophomore
Kimberly Lindner (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) (Antigo, Wis./Antigo/Colby CC) recorded four kills in the frame. The Cougars started better in the second, leading 3-1, but wound up dropping the set by an identical 25-13 score.
Trailing 14-7 in the third set, the Cougars put a run together. A 7-1 push made the score 15-14, forcing a Ramblers timeout in the middle of the run. The Ramblers eventually pulled away to take the match in three sets.
Sophomore
Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) led the Cougars with seven kills.
"We had an injury and the second middle postion hurt us," head coach Bob Eskew said. "We needed to block alot better than we did."
Loyola improves to 6-5. Chicago State falls to 2-12. The Cougars return to Loyola on Saturday (Sept. 15) for contests against USC Upstate (11 a.m.) and DePaul (2 p.m.) in the second and final day of the Ramble Challenge.
