Brewer Leads CSU Volleyball With 10 Kills In 3-0 Loss At NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – Chicago State University volleyball played their final regular season road match of 2012 on Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon at NJIT. The Cougars dropped the Great West Conference contest 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-16) to the Highlanders.
 
The Cougars lost the opening set after a furious NJIT comeback down the stretch. Chicago Stated led 20-16 but saw NJIT rally back to grab a 23-22 advantage. Kills by sophomore Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) knotted the score at 24 and 25 to deny a pair of NJIT set points. The third try was the charm for the Highlanders as a kill by Danica Vukotic earned point 27 and the set to NJIT.
 
Long scoring droughts prevented the Cougars from finding traction in sets two and three. In the second, NJIT closed the frame on a 15-4 run. In the third, it was a 9-2 run to finish the set.
 
Brewer finished with 10 kills, 10 assists and six digs. Junior Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) added 20 digs.
 
NJIT improves to 10-13 (2-3 GWC). Chicago State falls to 2-25 (0-6 GWC). The Cougars host non-conference Valparaiso on Tuesday. It is the first of four consecutive home matches for Chicago State.
