Chicago State Volleyball Falls In GWC Road Match At Houston Baptist

HOUSTON – Chicago State volleyball dropped a Great West Conference match at Houston Baptist (25-10, 25-15, 25-23) on Thursday (Oct. 11) evening.
 
The Cougars were led offensively by senior Sydney Van Munster (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland) (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland/Grand Rapids CC) and her eight kills with no errors on 13 attempts for a .615 attack percentage.
 
The closest set was the third. It featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. Chicago State led 18-17 when Houston Baptist responded with a 6-0 run to grab a 23-18 advantage. The Cougars didn't give in though, and turned in a 4-0 run of their own before a kill by the Huskies' Bailey Keith gave Houston Baptist match point at 24-22. Junior Paula Sioto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Instituto Educacional Raphael Di Santo/Martin Methodist College) notched her seventh kill of the match to hold off the Huskies first match point. However Houston Baptist won the match when Bailey Keith recorded a kill on the next point to win the third set 25-23.
 
Sioto also added 13 assists and six digs in addition to her seven kills.
 
Houston Baptist improves to 13-20 (3-1 GWC). The Cougars fall to 2-20 (0-3 GWC). The Cougars play their second leg of the Texas two-step by playing at Texas Pan American on Saturday.
