CHICAGO – Chicago State men's basketball had five players scored in double figures and two players post double-doubles to claim a close 98-95 win over visiting Houston Baptist in a Great West Conference contest today at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
The Cougars improved their season record to 2-17 (1-1) and the Huskies fell to 6-12 (0-2) on the year. The home team battled through ties at halftime (43-43) and the end of regulation (81-81) before outscoring HBU by a slim 17-14 margin in the extra session.
Junior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) (Decatur, Ill.) led the Green and White with game highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore Aaron Williams (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Vocational) (Chicago, Ill.) added 19 points and a career-best 11 rebounds.
Senior Ardarius Simmons (Chicago, IL/Southeastern (IA) CC) (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a career-high 20 points, junior Matt Samuels (Washington, DC/South Suburban College) (Washington, D.C.) posted 16 points and graduate student Lee Fisher (Dolton, IL/Northern Illinois) (Dolton, Ill.) recorded 12 points.
Houston Baptist had six players post in double figures, led by senior Terry Bembry's 20 points. Junior Marcus Davis added a double-double of 13 rebounds and 12 points.
CSU begins a two-game GWC road swing on Thursday, Jan. 26 at Utah Valley with a start time of 8:05 p.m.
