Carl Montgomery Tallies First 20-20 Game in CSU’s Overtime Battle against South Dakota at Great West Tournament

OREM, Utah – Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) recorded his first-ever 20-20 game in leading fifth-seeded Chicago State Thursday night against fourth-seeded South Dakota in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Great West Conference Tournament at the UCCU Center.

 

The defending GWC tournament champion Coyotes edged the Green and White by a score 73-70 in a hard-fought overtime battle between the two teams. The Cougars held a 52-35 advantage in rebounds and held USD to shoot 23 percent from three-point range.

 

“I thought our kids played hard, they deserved to win and they played well to win,” first-year head coach Tracy Dildy said. “I'm extremely proud of the way that they battled and fought tonight. We're going to keep our heads up and just be proud of our effort.”

 

Montgomery tallied 27 points and a career-high 21 rebounds in his final collegiate game while shooting 12-of-18 from the field and playing the entire 45 minutes on the court. Junior Ardarius Simmons (Chicago, IL/Southeastern (IA) CC) (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a season-best in scoring with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and senior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) added 12 points.

 

Senior Christian Wall (New Orleans, LA/John Ehret) (New Orleans, La.) rounded out the scoring for CSU with 10 points to go along with a season high-tying six rebounds and a game-high three steals.

 

The Coyotes were led by sophomore Jake Thomas, who recorded 20 points and eight rebounds. Senior Kendall Cutler tallied 16 points and tied Wall for game high honors with three steals, and junior Louie Krogman scored 15 points.

 

CSU concluded its season with a 6-26 overall record.
