Men’s Basketball Closes Four-Game Road Swing at IPFW

Jonathon Montgomery recorded a team-best 15 points in tonight's non-conference contest at IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Chicago State men's basketball closed out a four-game road swing here today with a 95-50 non-conference defeat to host IPFW tonight at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum. The Cougars fell to 6-18 with the loss, while the Mastodons improved to 16-8 on the year.

 

Junior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) led CSU with 15 points that included going 7-of-7 from the free throw line and added two steals, while senior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) scored 10 points.

 

Junior Joe Hill, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) came off the bench to score a career-best nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from three-point range for the Green and White, and senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) grabbed five rebounds.

 

Leading five IPFW players in double figures was senior Ben Botts and junior Jeremy Mixon, who each recorded a game-high 20 points. Also scoring in double figures were junior Frank Gaines (16 points), junior Trey McCorkle (15 points) and senior Zach Plackemeier (10 points).

 

Gaines and junior Jason Smeathers tied for game high honors in rebounding with seven apiece.

 

CSU begins its final homestand of the season at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center this Thursday night as it hosts South Dakota in a Great West Conference contest with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
