EDINBURG, Texas – The Chicago State men's basketball team posted a comeback from a seven-point halftime deficit Saturday night versus host Texas-Pan American in Great West Conference play by capturing a 70-64 win at the UTPA Fieldhouse. CSU improved its record to 6-17 (3-4) and the Broncs fell to 3-21 (0-7).
The win also snapped a 29-game losing streak in true road games for the Cougars, who last won a road game on Valentine's Day 2009 at NJIT.
Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) led the Green and White with his team-leading sixth double-double of the season with game highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds with a pair of blocked shots.
Junior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) added 11 points and tied a career high with four assists, while senior Hajji Martin (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) contributed 11 points, and junior Jamill Harris (Chicago, IL/Truman College) (Chicago, Ill.) scored nine points and dished out four assists.
UTPA was led by junior Jared Maree's 15 points, while senior Matt Mierzycki and sophomore Brandon Provost each scored 13 points.
CSU concludes its four-game road swing Tuesday night in Fort Wayne, Ind., with a non-conference contest against IPFW at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum beginning at 6 p.m., central time.
